CHRYSALIS BUTTERFLY
Linseed oil, pigment, medium, canvas, silver leaf
162 x130cm
These two paintings were inspired by the butterfly lifecycle and representation of transformation. The first painting “chrysalis” is reminiscent of the crystalline structure of a butterfly chrysalis, but it is also abstract, as if looking at the ocean or earth from above. Perhaps even another galaxy. The blues and greens depict a biosphere in a state of change, as well as rupture as if a butterfly were about to emerge. It is like a cocoon of the world.
The second painting “butterfly” depicts a free simple form in mid air, floating as if it were a butterfly in flight.
Due to the reflective nature of the silver leaf, the painting appears to change under different lighting conditions.
