2020, 2021, 2022 Time Slip in Tokyo Exhibition ⟫

2020,2021,2022 Time Slip in Tokyo, Exhibition
This exhibition brought together a series of works made in different media and based on my experiences and actions in and around Yokohama and Tokyo in the year of 2021. At the centerpiece of the exhibition was a flower torch relay performance. The official Olympic torch was actually in the shape of a “sakura” cherry tree flower for which I am named after, and having also ran in the Sydney relay when I was a teenage athlete and briefly carrying the torch then, I wanted to try to participate in Tokyo as well.
However, when I knew I couldn’t enter the official relay, I decided to make an artistic circuit in face of the difficult conditions. This pop exhibition brought together many photos and videos alongside paintings and other multimedia works.
Despite all Olympic signs and paraphernalia being dated 2020 the year was actual 2021, so there was a sense of being caught in a “time slip” both visually and experientially due to the difficult global conditions. >>
